How to Saw Concrete

18 Nov,2013

Sometime during the construction or remodeling of your home, you will need to breach a concrete barrier. Pipes or wires that need to cross the barrier will require you to saw the concrete before digging can begin. Sawing through concrete are labor-intensive tasks that require focus, physical ability, and a bit of know-how to get the job done right.
  Things you'll need:
Concrete saw with diamond cutting discs
  Instructions:
1- Place the concrete saw onto the floor. Place your foot onto the top of the saw case, making absolutely sure you are well away from the blade. Grasp the handle of the saw with one hand. Switch the choke on full. Pull the starter cord once. Switch the choke on 1/2 and pull the cord again while squeezing the trigger. Keep the trigger engaged until the saw is running smoothly. Flip the choke to the ”Off“ position and release the trigger, while still holding the saw firmly. Place both hands onto the saw and remove your foot.
2- Lift the saw from the floor while maintaining a firm two-handed grip. Approach the line to be cut, lower the saw blade to an inch above the line, and engage the trigger. Allow the saw blade to reach full speed, then lower it onto the line. Maintain your grip while allowing the weight of the saw and the motion of the blade to cut into the concrete. Hold the saw back so that it cuts down into the concrete instead of running across the top. Press the saw into the cut and allow the blade to sink fully into the concrete.
3- Push the saw forward while guiding the its motion to ensure a straight cut. Hold the saw firmly so that the blade is as far into the concrete as possible and the body of the saw rests on the concrete. Push on the saw, following your marked line to ensure a straight, even cut. Pull the saw straight up and out of the cut when you reach the end of the line. Flip the power switch off and hold the saw firmly with both hands until the engine and blade come to a complete stop before setting the saw down.
