How to Drill Concrete

13 Nov,2013

Sometime during the construction or remodeling of your home, you will need to breach a concrete barrier. Pipes or wires that need to cross the barrier will require you to drill a hole through concrete. Drilling through concrete are labor-intensive tasks that require focus, physical ability, and a bit of know-how to get the job done right.
  Things you'll need:
Hammer drill with diamond core bits.
  Instructions:
1- Hold the hammer drill in both hands. Check the hammer switch to ensure the hammer function is engaged. Place the bit against the spot to be drilled. Lean into the drill so that the weight of your body holds it firmly in place with the drill bit at a 90-degree angle to the concrete surface.
2- Squeeze the trigger of the hammer drill to engage the bit. Keep your body centered so the drill stays at a 90-degree angle to the surface you want to breach. The hammer drill will bounce as the hammer mechanism inside of the drill does its job, so stay focused and maintain your balance to achieve a smooth bore.
3- Keep the trigger engaged and pull the drill back every 30 seconds so that the air coming from the motion of the bit can blow debris out of the hole. Press the drill back into the bottom of the hole and commence drilling. Once the hole is drilled through, keep the trigger engaged and move the bit back and forth through the hole to clear any dust and debris.
